Ophthalmology

Our Focus: High-Quality Eye Care

Welcome to Ophthalmology at Crystal Run. Ophthalmology deals with the anatomy, physiology, and diseases of the eye. Ophthalmologists diagnose and treat both medical and surgical eye problems in patients of all ages. At Crystal Run, our ophthalmology team consists of highly skilled physicians who are fellowship-trained in anterior segment surgery (for cataracts and other eye problems) and glaucoma (a group of diseases that damage the eye's optic nerve and can result in vision loss and blindness). Our ophthalmologists offer complete medical and surgical eye care, from simple evaluations to complex and delicate eye surgery.

At Crystal Run, we are dedicated to providing our patients with the latest advancements in eye care, and to offer the safest and best treatment techniques available from leading eye doctors. Our equipment includes two types of lasers for the eye, glaucoma field testers, an optic nerve head analyzer, specialized computerized machines to check your eyes for glasses and for soft contact lenses, and the latest machinery for accurate cataract surgical results.

Diabetic Retinal Exam

A retinal exam is recommended once per year for patients living with diabetes. If you have diabetes, it’s important to get eye screenings regularly to check for potential complications like diabetic retinopathy. Left undiagnosed, diabetic retinopathy can lead to vision loss and potentially blindness.  In fact, the disease among adults ages 20-74, accounts for the most frequent cause of new cases of blindness in developed countries.

Diabetic retinal exams are performed in the office and results can be seen immediately when your exam is performed by an Ophthalmologist.

Optomap Retinal Exam

Crystal Run Healthcare now offers the optomap retinal exam. The optomap exam gives your Ophthalmologist a panoramic image of the surface of your retina. The exam is fast, easy, and comfortable, and may even alleviate the need for dilation. Images taken during your optomap Exam will help your doctor check for conditions including macular degeneration, glaucoma, and retinal detachments, while assessing the overall health of your eye. It can also help detect diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, some cancers, and auto-immune disorders. The image provides a permanent record for annual review.

State-of-the-Art Equipment

  • Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) - diagnostic image scanner to detect various retinal and glaucomatous disorders
  • Glaucoma optic nerve head analyzer (used to assess glaucoma)
  • Corneal topography (to map the shape of the cornea)
  • Corneal pachymetry (to measure the thickness of the cornea)
  • IOLmaster (for accurate intraocular lens measurements prior to cataract surgery)
  • A scan/immersion ultrasound (for cataract and lens surgery)
  • B scan ultrasound (used in diagnosing a variety of eye diseases)
  • optomap retinal exam - provides a panoramic image of the surface of your retina

Frequently Performed Procedures and Therapies:

  • Cataract surgery
  • Corneal transplants
  • Glaucoma treatment and surgery
  • Intravitreal injections (including Lucentis, Avastin, Triamcinolone Acetonide, Ozurdex) (to treat a variety of retinal diseases)
